Meet the students from our previous cohorts here.

What to expect:

By the end of the program, you’ll be comfortable using HTML5, CSS3, responsive design, design theory, jQuery, JavaScript, APIs and WordPress to build beautiful, functional and responsive websites and app. For those interested in freelancing, we’ll also teach you the intangible skills involved in running a successful freelance business: personal branding, how to get started, finding and winning clients, scoping, pricing and quoting projects, client management, time management, and more. During the bootcamp, you’ll build a website and blog for your new front-end developer career or freelance business, create a portfolio to show off your skills and fill it with interesting projects, have the chance to work on real client projects and also create systems and processes to help you become an effective front-end developer or freelancer quickly.

But that’s not all. Included in your tuition fee is a free month of co-working space at HackerYou HQ, where you’ll continue to be coached and mentored by Heather PayneWes Bos, Brenna O’BrienDrew Minns and others as you find your first front-end developer job or officially launch your freelance business and take on your first clients. We’ll review your code, help you on the hard days, congratulate you on the good days and we’ll even try to send potential employers or clients in your direction! (To clarify, if you’d prefer to work for a company as a front-end developer, you’re a fit for this course, too! We’ll prepare you for those roles and even help you land interviews.)

What makes HackerYou’s Web Development Immersive special?

1. It’s led by Wes Bos, and mentored by Brenna O’Brien and Drew Minns, three of Toronto’s most talented developers and instructors. During the program, their full-time commitment is to the 25 students enrolled. Wes is a web developer, UI designer and speaker who has been creating websites for around nine years. Brenna has led numerous sold out workshops for Ladies Learning Code and has been teaching with HackerYou since September of 2013. Drew joined the HackerYou team in May of 2014 after teaching a web development course at Humber College as a part-time instructor and realizing that teaching is really fun.

2. With three full-time instructors and only 25 students, the student-to-instructor ratio at HackerYou is hard to beat. Few college programs or other programming bootcamps feature an 8:1 ratio.

3. When designing this program, we’ve drawn on all of the experiences we’ve had teaching programming and other technical skills to adults through both HackerYou and Ladies Learning Code since 2011. This program will be HackerYou’s fourth full-time bootcamp – and they always sell out.

4. Our Alumni community is amazing. Graduates have gone on to join companies like Teehan+Lax, Telus, Demac Media, JUICE Mobile, K.Lab (in Berlin!), Zync, BlackJet, Filament Creative and more. Many have gone on to start their own businesses as freelancers. You can do it, too!
